Lift Safety

Teachers Housing Association has a number of passenger and stairway lifts across our buildings and sites. It is essential that these lifts are maintained to a high standard and used appropriately to ensure they are safe for our tenants and staff. The organisation has a lift policy which covers our responsibilities in terms of maintenance and the day-to-day issues relating to lifts are monitored by our on-site staff.

How we manage lift Safety

In order to ensure the lifts are maintained to an appropriate standard, we carry out regular inspections and servicing. Repairs and replacement of lifts are carried out,. as and when required.

  1.  All passenger and stairway lifts within THA properties will be placed under a planned preventive maintenance contract.
  2. Planned preventative maintenance visits will be agreed based on the age and frequency of use of the lift.
  3. Periodic safety tests will be commissioned to confirm meet statutory standards.
  4. Site staff are responsible for ensuring that planned visits are undertaken and any issues picked up and reported to the compliance team.
  5. Site staff are also responsible for reporting any day-to-day maintenance issues or risks to the compliance team.
  6. The organisation ensures that regular lift inspections are carried out by a competent person.
  7. The organisation maintains a lift register, which is kept up to date on a regular basis.
