Adaptations & Improvements
Alterations & Home Improvements
Where you live is more than just a place, it’s your home. It’s important that you can make alterations and improvements to your home if you want to do so.
If you want to make any improvements or alterations your tenancy agreement requires you to seek permission from us, and it’s important you check with us first before you start any works. We need to know what works you want to do, and we won’t unreasonably say no to requests for improvements or alterations, but if we do say no, we’ll fully explain our reasons why.
You will need to:
- Check whether planning permission or building regulations approval is needed from your local council.
- Make sure the work is carried out by a competent person
- Use an approved installer if the work includes alterations to the gas and/or electrics
- Check whether an asbestos survey needs to take place.
You may be responsible for the ongoing repair and maintenance of any improvements, and you may be eligible for compensation for some types of improvements when you move out of your home.
Please get in touch with us, and we can help support you through the process.
